Innovative Technology and Treatments Lead the Way to Better Cancer Cures
Through advanced clinical research, novel therapies and innovative technology, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center is helping lead the way to more effective cancer treatments. Our dedicated team of oncologists are continually seeking out new and promising therapies and giving patients early access to novel treatments through clinical trials.
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)
One of the latest innovations used at UH Seidman Cancer Center is the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to treat advanced abdominal and gynecological cancer. HIPEC, which has been used for years in patients with other types of cancer, is delivered to patients immediately after cancer surgery to attack any remaining malignant cells and delay or abate cancer growth. During this one-time treatment, a chemotherapy agent is heated and then circulated throughout the abdominal cavity, during which time it penetrates diseased tissue and attacks the cancerous cells.
