Elevating Neurological Care Quality & Safety

As a nationally recognized children’s hospital, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s is committed to providing safe, comprehensive, high quality and family-centered care to our patients. Our pediatric neurologists are certified by the American Boards of Neurology and Pediatrics, and each brings unique expertise and knowledge to our pediatric neurology team, providing our patients the best experience possible.

Less Invasive, Less Medication When Possible

Neurological disorders and conditions are often treated with medications. In addition, children may need additional medications for sedation to go through diagnostic testing or procedures for their specific neurological condition. We understand this can be concerning to parents as medications can have a long-term impact on health and wellness over time. At UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, our team of pediatric neurologists have made significant strides to reduce the number of invasive procedures and amount of medication we use to treat children with neurological disorders.

We have successfully reduced the number of patients taking medication for tic disorders through the successful use of cognitive behavioral therapy. We’ve also lowered the dose for pediatric sedation for testing and other procedures for children with developmental concerns, such as autism, to only what is absolutely needed.

A Multidisciplinary Team Approach to Diagnostics & Neurology Treatment

Our multidisciplinary approach at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s brings together an entire pediatric specialist team to care for, educate and nurture children from infancy to adulthood – for any healthcare need.

We take this team-based approach when evaluating, diagnosing and treating pediatric patients with neurological disorders. Our pediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons and epileptologists work collaboratively with a variety of other specialists to provide personalized neurology treatment plans for our patients, including:

  • Neuropsychologists

  • Neuro-geneticists

  • Neuro metabolic specialists

  • Neuro-oncologists

  • Pediatric neonatologists

  • Pediatric anesthesiologists

  • EEG specialists

  • Pharmacists

Bringing a team together and involving any pediatric specialist’s expertise needed helps ensure neurological conditions are more accurately diagnosed and treated with the whole patient in mind. Helping Teens with Epilepsy Transition to Adult Care

Transitioning from pediatric to adult care can be challenging for young adults and their families. At UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, we provide a transitional care clinic for teenagers with epilepsy to give them time and help them navigate and manage their care into adulthood.

Patients have access to both adult and pediatric epileptologists as part of our high quality, well-coordinated, patient-centered care. This helps create a seamless transition as they learn how to self-manage their medical care.
