Code STEMI Activates Fast Response for Heart Attack Patients
At UH Parma Medical Center, we understand that time is especially critical during cardiovascular issues, so heart attack patients are rushed immediately to the cardiac catheterization lab.
Due to technological advances, our emergency physicians can now view an electrocardiogram (EKG) prior to the patient’s arrival in an ambulance. For any patient with an ST-elevated myocardial infarction (heart attack), the ER physician calls a Code STEMI, which triggers a team response to expedite care upon the patient’s arrival.
Our Code STEMI system has resulted in a dramatic improvement in door-to-balloon times. An average of 96 percent of patients that arrive to the emergency department and are experiencing an acute myocardial infarction (AMI), have a door-to-balloon time less than the national standard of 90 minutes.
Certified Stroke Center
The stroke program at UH Parma Medical Center has received the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, an organization that accredits hospitals nationwide. When a stroke patient arrives in the ED, the stroke team is activated to respond, expediting lab and imaging results. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association also has recognized the hospital's quality stroke program.
