Between undergrad and medical school she spent 27 months in Swaziland with the Peace Corps, working with HIV education and community development in a remote small mountain community. After that, she spent 6 months working for Peace Corps Response in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where she helped Planned Parenthood establish a new program for HIV education and assisted with marketing and program development. During medical school she acted as director of The University of Michigan's Global Health Program in Quito, Ecuador. The program was a collaboration between the Medical School, Undergraduate College, School of Public Health, School of Social Work, and Dental School. She also spent a month in Ghana as a fourth year medical student working with the OB/Gyn residents at Korle Bu Medical School in Accra. Her future interests in global health continue to involve public health education.
