Your Stay at UH Beachwood Medical Center

At University Hospitals Beachwood Medical Center, your comfort is one of our top priorities. Learn more about patient room features and hospital services and amenities that can help ensure your stay at UH Beachwood Medical Center is a positive experience. 

What to Bring to the Hospital

When you come to University Hospitals Beachwood Medical Center for a surgery, procedure or diagnostic test (CT scan, MRI, cardiac catheterization, etc.), please bring the following:

  • A list of your prescribed and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements, including dosage and how often you take them
  • The name of your primary care physician if you have one
  • Any allergies you have to medications or environmental factors
  • Your insurance information
  • Whether you have an advanced directive or living will
  • The dates of your last flu or pneumonia vaccines

Your Room

Patient room telephones: Telephones are provided in all patient rooms. To place a local call, dial 9, wait for the dial tone, then place your call.  To make a long-distance call, dial 9+0+ the number. For further dialing instructions, dial 0 and a hospital operator will assist you.

Television: UH Beachwood Medical Center is pleased to provide free cable TV to patients. You can choose local or national channels. Your nurse call control/pillow speaker provides direct contact with your nursing staff, controls all TV functions and operates patient room lights.

Mail and flowers: Mail and packages will be delivered to your room. Any mail received after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address. Florists deliver directly to patient rooms. Outgoing mail may be taken to the nursing station or given to your attending nurse.

Valuables: If you have valuables, please give them to a relative or friend to take care of during your stay. Although UH Beachwood Medical Center takes great care with your belongings, we are not responsible for lost or missing items. Store your eyeglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and dentures in containers labeled with your name and place them in your bedside table when not in use. Please do not leave them on your bed or food tray, as they may be damaged or lost.

Electrical devices: Electrical devices, including hairdryers, curling irons, razors, radios, heating pads, portable heaters and other devices are not permitted in patient rooms. You may use battery-operated devices; however, we cannot be responsible for these items if damaged or lost.

For the hearing impaired: UH Beachwood Medical Center offers an interpreter service for the hearing impaired at no charge, including telephones with amplification devices. A special telecommunications device (TTY) also is available. Please ask your nurse for more information.

Your Meals

To serve you better, we provide an innovative meal preparation and delivery system that lets you order what you want, when you want it. You may order your meals to be delivered anytime between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., seven days a week. When you are settled in your room, you’ll receive a menu and instructions for ordering your meals. Feel free to order a snack for later in the evening.

Rapid Response Team

If you or your loved one’s condition seems to be changing, please contact your nurse. You also can request to see the nurse manager or nursing supervisor to share your concerns, and you can request that the staff contact our rapid response I-Team for evaluation. The I-Team is available 24/7 to evaluate the patient and collaborate with the patient, family, nurse and physician in providing appropriate intervention.

Pastoral Care

For many people, a hospital admission can be a trying experience. You find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings separated from your family, friends and religious community. To help during your stay, UH Beachwood Medical Center offers confidential chaplaincy services 24/7 for patients and families. Please talk to your nurse to arrange a pastoral call.

Discharge Information

Most patients will be discharged by 11 a.m., although tests or test results could extend your stay. Please make arrangements with a family member or friend to drive you home. If the person taking you home does not arrive by the time you’re discharged, you may wait in our discharge lounge.
