Features and Services

Named after lifelong Chardon resident Norma N. Chapman, our new and expanded emergency room is twice as large as the previous facility and incorporates the latest technology while allowing for greater patient privacy and comfort.

The emergency room at UH Geauga Medical Center offers:

  • Pediatric emergency services with 24-hour observation unit
  • Staff led by board-certified physicians
  • Emergency staff trained in in cardiac resuscitation and the treatment of heart events, including the use of thrombolytic (TPA) therapy

Child-Friendly Care

UH Geauga Medical Center offers kid-friendly emergency and urgent care services provided by board-certified emergency physicians with experience in children’s care.

The Geauga Emergency Services team also operates an observation unit for families whose children requires more attention. After careful examination by our team, we are able to provide observation for a 24-hour period for conditions such as asthma, fractures, infections, fever, dehydration, seizures and vomiting.

Our emergency experts have a direct connection to the nationally ranked University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, the region’s only Level I pediatric trauma center, for any child that needs more advanced medical attention. Our care team will also make sure to keep in close communication with each child’s primary care provider.

ED Direct for Prompt Care

With ED Direct at UH Geauga Medical Center, a nurse will immediately begin the care experience with our patient registration process. After symptoms and vital signs are recorded, the patient is taken to one of our comfortable, state-of-the-art examination rooms for a more detailed assessment of their condition. This includes documenting current medications, allergies and risk factors which may impact care. This comprehensive approach to swift action provides our physicians and clinical staff with an accurate picture of the health of the patient for efficient diagnosis and improved outcomes.

Training in Emergency Services

UH Geauga Medical Center is the region's leader in training and emergency care protocol development. Our emergency staff works closely with the region's EMS providers. Training programs include:

  • Continuing medical education
  • CPR training
  • Basic life support
  • Advanced cardiac life support
  • Pediatric advanced life support
