Steven Gunzler, MD, FAAN is a neurologist in the University Hospitals Neurological Institute's Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He is also an Associate Professor of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Gunzler’s interests include Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, multiple system atrophy, ataxia, dystonia, Huntington’s disease, Tourette’s syndrome, and botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders.
Dr. Gunzler obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with honors. He earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York, where he also completed his internal medicine internship. Dr. Gunzler received his residency training in Neurology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. In addition, he completed three years of fellowship training in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders at the Parkinson Center of Oregon at Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
He has served as a principal investigator of an NIH-sponsored Parkinson’s disease biomarker study and a LRRK2 genetic registry in Parkinson’s disease. He has also served as an investigator in several other NIH and Michael J. Fox Foundation funded studies in Parkinson’s disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, and Huntington’s disease. He has been principal investigator of a couple of grants from the Parkinson’s Foundation to study inpatient quality of care in PD. He has been site principal investigator on numerous clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease and progressive supranuclear palsy. He has been site principal investigator on numerous clinical research studies in Parkinson’s disease and progressive supranuclear palsy.
Dr. Gunzler is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles, editorials and invited reviews, as well as four book and encyclopedia chapters. He has presented research projects and case reports at numerous international, national and regional peer-reviewed medical conferences. In addition, Dr. Gunzler is a member of the American Association of Neurology, International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, Parkinson Study Group and Huntington Study Group. Dr. Gunzler co-authored quality improvement guidelines in Parkinson’s disease for the American Academy of Neurology and is on numerous working groups in the Movement Disorder Society and Parkinson Study Group.
