University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center Provides Advanced Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation program at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute at UH Elyria Medical Center addresses both general and specific problems of chronic obstructive lung diseases, including:

The program's goal is to help patients achieve their fullest physical, emotional and social potential while understanding the limitations imposed by their chronic lung disease. Educational and exercise program sessions are conducted by specially trained pulmonary personnel and meet three days a week for six weeks. Class sizes are kept small with four to six patients to ensure individual attention.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program includes:

  • Breathing retraining
  • Bronchial hygiene
  • Dietary counseling
  • Group discussions
  • Individual counseling
  • Physical and occupational therapy
  • Physical conditioning
  • Pulmonary education
  • Respiratory therapy
