About

Denise Bothe, MD, FAAP, is a pediatric developmental and behavioral specialist in the Division of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics and Medical Director of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Clinic and the International Adoption Clinic at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. She is Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Bothe’s special interests include high-functioning autism, anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), school issues, international adoption, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and stress management. She is board certified in both pediatrics and developmental behavioral pediatrics.

Dr. Bothe completed her undergraduate studies at Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., and earned her medical degree from Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, N.Y. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y.

She spent five years in private practice with Prime Health Pediatrics Lake Health Pediatrics (formerly Prime Health Pediatrics), affiliated with Lake Hospital System, Mentor, Ohio. Following this experience she completed a fellowship in developmental and behavioral pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. She also worked with Dr. Senders and Associates in South Euclid, Ohio prior to joining UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital staff in 2008.

Over the past 25 years Dr. Bothe has provided many hours of volunteer medical service at pediatric clinics and hospitals nationally and internationally.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and a reviewer for the Journal of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Bothe was selected among the Best Doctors in America in 2013 and 2014.

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
