Pain Management

Comprehensive spine and back pain care is available here—in one location, in one familiar environment.

Pain Management Consultation

At the Spine Center at UH Bedford Medical Center, a Campus of UH Regional Hospitals, the first step in taking control of chronic back pain is making an accurate diagnosis. If the pain has not improved within 3 weeks of its onset, patients should see a back pain specialist. After three weeks, the pain may worsen and be more difficult to treat successfully.

Depending on the symptoms, patients may be referred to one of our board-certified, fellowship-trained pain management specialists. These specialists will explore every conservative, nonsurgical option, and take the time to get to know the patient and his or her symptoms.

Surgical Consultation

Patients with severe pain symptoms may be referred to our neurological spine specialists—either by our pain management physicians or directly by the patient's primary care doctor. The Spine Center offers convenient access to the expertise of these highly skilled specialists while emphasizing patient comfort.

Our fellowship-trained neurologist and neurosurgeon work closely with our pain management physicians to ensure that patients receive the most appropriate consultation in the most timely manner. They'll work with patients to move to the next critical step in the relief process: taking the most appropriate images to diagnose the source of the pain.

Diagnostic Imaging

Whether patients need an X-ray, CT scan or MRI of cervical, lumbar or thoracic spinal areas, the Spine Center at UH Bedford Medical Center offers certified digital imaging capabilities in a comfortable environment. Images will be reviewed by patient physicians within 24 hours – often the same day they are taken, depending on the appointment time.

The specialist will make a clear, concise diagnosis of the patient’s chronic back pain and discuss safe, effective treatment options. These may involve medical management, minimally-invasive, outpatient pain management injections or surgical techniques. In all cases, care plan alternatives will be developed according to the patient's own needs and goals.

After a treatment plan is established or surgery is completed, the patient’s specialist will consult with his or her primary care doctor to develop an individualized rehabilitation program that helps the patient manage the pain and return to a functional, enjoyable lifestyle. We offer innovative strengthening techniques and education for accomplishing daily tasks in compassionate, one-on-one sessions with a UH Bedford Medical Center physical therapist.
