The burning, stinging, electric-like shock that runs from your low back all the way down your leg—this pain is undeniably sciatica. For some people, the pain from sciatica can be severe and disabling. For others, the sciatica pain might be infrequent and irritating, but has the potential to get worse. Sciatica statistics estimate that 5 to 10% of people with low back pain have sciatica. As many as 40% of people will get sciatica during their lifetime, as it is one of the most common yet misunderstood types of pain. Sciatica becomes more frequent as you age.
