UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital

University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital is a modern 244 bed dedicated children's hospital with a nationally renowned faculty. UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital's eight-story patient care tower, which opened in 1997, is one of the most advanced, family-centered pediatric hospital sites in the nation. Approximately 10,000 newborns, children, and adolescents are admitted annually to UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, where they receive first-rate care in a warm, supportive environment conducive to healing.

UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has long been a leader in the field and was ranked in the Top 5 for the third consecutive year by placing #4 in this year’s U.S.News & World Report survey. A brand new NICU was opened in the spring of 2009 and utilizes the most technologically advanced equipment, including video monitors on every incubator and the first procedural bed for neonates. Great care was also taken to create a welcoming and soothing environment and incorporates a nature theme in every patient pod. Our NICU takes care of very acutely ill neonates, with referrals from several states and approximately 200 births each year of infants weighing less than 1.5kg.

The newly renovated 20 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is staffed by four or five junior residents, critical care fellows and an attending physician. The PICU has a large support infrastructure and utilizes modern medical technologies, including ECMO and oscillatory ventilation. There is a designated radiology room for residents to review imaging studies on two large screen computers.
