Improving Diagnosis and Treatment of Pediatric Epilepsy Through Clinical Research

Clinical research conducted in the Pediatric Epilepsy Center at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital focuses on recognizing and understanding the factors that improve diagnosis and treatment outcomes for children with epilepsy.

Current clinical research projects include:

  • Imaging epilepsy: Studying electrical source imaging in children with focal epilepsy undergoing surgical evaluation
  • Diagnosing epilepsy with electroencephalography (EEG): Detailed video EEG analysis of newborns and young children with seizures
  • Co-morbidities in children with epilepsy: Autism and developmental risks in children with epilepsy and impact of behavior, seizures and physical disabilities on a child’s quality of life
  • Patient Outcomes: In the area of patient outcomes, our pediatric physician scientists are working to find out how diversity affects epilepsy management in children, as well as studying the levels of seizure control achieved after epilepsy surgery.
