Clinical Translational Research

The goal of this multidisciplinary, disease-based translational program is to integrate the pre-clinical research and clinical trials programs in head and neck cancer at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center across multiple disciplines that play a role in treatment of head and neck cancer. This broad effort is centered on the four main medical disciplines in head and neck cancer: otolaryngology head and neck surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology and dental medicine.

To achieve the goal of improved patient outcomes via rapid translation of tumor biology to the clinic, the program encompasses laboratory efforts in cancer biology, research and clinical pathology (tumor bank and database), and clinical research services as well as utilizing the CORE resources of UH Seidman Cancer Center.

The goals of this translational research initiative is to bring novel therapeutics to the treatment of head and neck cancers based on rational pre-clinical investigation and in the setting of a patient focus.

Secondary goals are to develop and identify methods for therapeutic and diagnostic tumor marker development.

This program is currently funded through a variety of avenues including National Institutes of Health grants, departmental support, Case Western Reserve University institutional support and philanthropic efforts.
