State-of-the-Art Treatments and Equipment Designed for Newborns
One of our goals at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is for parents to take comfort knowing their child will receive the most advanced care. Our neonatal specialists have pioneered treatments and advanced newborn care all over the world–from developing cooling therapy for high-risk infants to promoting family-centered care.
We use the latest, state-of-the-art equipment, instruments and treatments designed for the tiniest patients, like the Rainbow Flex neonatal surgical bed. The world’s first surgical bed developed specifically for tiny newborns, the Rainbow Flex was designed by a team of clinical specialists at UHRainbow Babies & Children’s. It is now used across the country at many children’s hospitals to provide the best surgical and healing environment for newborns. The unique design of the bed allows caregivers to have control over the baby’s position and access from all sides during surgery while keeping the infant at optimal warmth.
Our specialists also use advanced technology such as bedside ultrasound, nitric oxide, state-of the-art ventilators and a sophisticated heart-lung machine, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO),that provides support for babies with breathing difficulties. In many cases, this equipment is not only life-saving or life-prolonging, it has been scientifically proven to improve the infant’s long-term quality of life–which is our ultimate goal.
