About
Adam J. Peiffer, OD, MS, is a pediatric optometrist in the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He also serves as Assistant Professor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences.
Dr. Peiffer attended The University of Toledo where he earned dual bachelor’s degrees with honors in Biology and Biochemistry. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors and a master’s degree in Vision Science from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He was awarded the Ocular Instruments Award of Excellence in the study of Ocular Disease and the COVD Award of Excellence in Vision Therapy.
He completed an Advanced Practice Fellowship in the area of Binocular Vision and Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. His is research focused on the function of the visual system in adolescents after suffering sports-related concussions. During his fellowship, he was awarded the Dr. Allen James Fortuna Memorial Award for Excellence in the Practice of Pediatric Optometry.
Dr. Peiffer holds appointments as Auxiliary Clinical Faculty for Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry, and Associated Faculty for The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He serves as a clinical attending for optometric externs from Indiana University College of Optometry, New England College of Optometry, Ohio State University College of Optometry, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry in the areas of pediatric vision evaluation, pediatric ocular disease, and pediatric contact lenses.
His practice focuses on routine and medical ocular examinations with a special interest in the management of amblyopia, strabismic and non-strabismic binocular vision disorders, visually induced headaches, pediatric ocular disease, special needs children, and sports vision. He provides triage and referral services to pediatric surgical sub-specialties within University Hospitals Eye Institute. Dr. Peiffer also serves as the optometrist for the Cleveland Browns providing routine and acute eye care for players, coaches, staff and their families.
Aside from clinical practice, Dr. Peiffer lectures at optometric continuing education events, participates in clinical research, and attends local and national optometric meetings to maintain a high quality evidence-based approach to his practice.
Dr. Peiffer regularly volunteers at community organization events to provide vision screenings and examinations for at risk and special needs children.

Industry Relationships
University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities.
