Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Research Training
A fundamental aspect of the Case Western Reserve University / University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Fellowship is teaching trainees how to master the research process and incorporate research into their everyday lives. We have a diverse group of faculty with varied backgrounds, providing opportunity for collaboration on a broad range of research topics.
Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery fellows choose a mentor from URPS faculty based on their basic science, translational or clinical research interests. Fellows dedicate a total of 12 months to research during their training, in alignment with ACGME requirements. The thesis project is completed and presented in the third year of fellowship.

CWRU / UH Cleveland Medical Center URPS fellows often perform both clinical research and bench research depending on the breadth and depth of their topic of interest. For those interested in bench research, trainees also have access to cutting-edge research facilities, which comprises the UH Urology Institute and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology laboratories’ nearly 10,000 combined square feet of research space with several individual bench areas, tissue culture rooms, chemical fume hoods and a dedicated cold room.
