At the UH Transplant Institute, we provide the full spectrum of care program for the transplant recipient.

Our Team:

• Initiates the contact with the referred patient and performs a thorough educational program as an introduction
• Arranges for all of the appointments and testing necessary for the evaluation
• Provides a timely assessment of the potential candidate for a transplant possibility by transplant committee consultation
• Considers the referring cardiologist and physician as a vital part of the team and communication is established during all aspects of the work-up

A History of Transplantation at University Hospitals

• Established programs beginning with kidney transplants in 1968; pancreas transplants in 1986; heart transplants in 1988; liver transplants in 1988; and lung transplants in 1999
• Performed first two-way paired kidney exchange in Ohio
• Performed the first live donor liver transplant in northern Ohio
• Performed first reduced lobe and split-liver transplants in northern Ohio
