Experts Provide Ongoing Care Conferences for Healthy Pregnancies

Board-certified physicians at University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital offer care coordination meetings or care conferences to ensure the healthiest pregnancies, including MacDonald Antepartum Care Conference. This weekly, multidisciplinary meeting is designed to ensure that all needs are being met for our obstetric patients who require hospitalization prior to delivery due to pregnancy complications. Patients may be hospitalized for a few days or several months, so it is vital to review care plans frequently for improved outcomes. This care conference is attended by the following specialists:

• Maternal fetal medicine team
• Antepartum care coordinator
• Clinical nurse specialist
• Dietitian
• Social worker
• Neonatology expert
• Antepartum nursing manager and educator
• Residents and medical students

Fetal Boards is another care conference where a large multidisciplinary team at the Barbara Peterson Ruhlman Women & Newborn Center meets twice a month to review high-risk fetal and neonatal patients. This care conference is designed for our ultrasound team and maternal fetal medicine specialists to share information about patients that our neonatal and pediatric subspecialty colleagues will care for. In addition to reviewing high-risk fetal care patients, Fetal Boards provide the obstetrics team the opportunity to follow up on babies once they reach the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Our ultimate goal is to provide seamless care for both mother and infant.

Both the MacDonald Antepartum Care Conference and the Fetal Boards help the entire team plan and care for complex cases.
