Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery Fellowship

The Stereotactic and Functional Fellowship Program at University Hospitals, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, is a comprehensive 1-year experience in clinical care and clinical research related to functional and stereotactic neurosurgery. Areas of neurosurgery covered by the fellowship include:

  • Epilepsy
  • Movement disorders
  • Pain neurosurgery
  • Peripheral nerve surgery
  • Radiosurgery
  • Trigeminal neuralgia surgery

Comprehensive Education in Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery

The goals of the fellowship training program are to provide a broad educational experience in functional neurosurgery to facilitate the development of the cognitive knowledge, procedural skills, interpersonal/professional skills and practical experience necessary to become proficient in all areas of the subspecialty.

To accomplish this, fellows in our program participate in preoperative assessment, operative treatment and postoperative care for patients undergoing functional neurosurgery. In addition, they participate in multidisciplinary subspecialty conferences where they interface with faculty and fellows in movement disorders neurology, epilepsy neurology and pain medicine. Fellows will also develop skills in the dissemination of clinical and procedural knowledge to neurosurgery residents and medical students.

Finally, clinical, anatomic and neuroscience research will constitute an integral component of the educational experience and provision will be made for the successful completion of research projects, including the opportunity to contribute to multiple innovative clinical research projects and several ongoing clinical trials.
