It is important to be confident about the quality of care you or your loved ones receive at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Our Comprehensive Stroke Program has been certified by the Joint Commission since this designation became available and when additional standards were developed to recognize leading programs responsible for setting the national agenda in all aspects of stroke care and prevention, the University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Comprehensive Stroke Center became the 1st in Northeast Ohio and the 19th in the nation to receive this certification.

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists from neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-intensive care, neuro-interventional, neuroscience nursing, emergency medicine work together to care for patients with the most complex medical and surgical conditions and get them on the road to recovery.

The University Hospitals System Stroke Program includes ten certified Advanced Primary Stroke Centers and 11 Acute Stroke Access facilities in addition to the Comprehensive Stroke Center at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Though the use of standardized clinical practice guidelines based on the best scientific evidence, we offer the highest quality care to all patients with stroke, regardless of which of our facilities they visit.

University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center’s Comprehensive Stroke Center has consistently won the highest award for quality care from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The 2020 Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus Gold Plus status was achieved by >85 percent compliance with all of the Get With the Guidelines–Stroke measures for two or more consecutive years and administering tPA therapy within 45 minutes more than 75 percent of the time and within 30 minutes more than 50 percent of the time.

The GWTG-Stroke program allows us to compare our performance to other hospitals in Ohio and shows that we do extremely well in meeting the measure at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and compared to other Ohio hospitals.
