Francoise Adan, MD, ABIHM

Françoise Adan MD, is the Chief Whole Health and Well-Being Officer for University Hospitals Health System (UH) and the Director of UH Connor Whole Health based in Cleveland, Ohio.

UH is a comprehensive health system with annual revenues of $5.2 billion, 23 hospitals (including 5 joint ventures), more than 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and over 200 physician offices located throughout 16 counties in Northeast Ohio. The system’s flagship academic medical center, UH Cleveland Medical Center, is affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, NEOMED, Oxford University and the Technion Israel Institute of Technology. The main campus also includes UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, UH MacDonald Women's Hospital and UH Seidman Cancer Center.

Dr. Adan holds the Christopher M. & Sara H. Connor Chair in Integrative Health. Through her skilled leadership, Dr. Adan created and is successfully directing a system-wide initiative where state-of-the-art medical care is integrated with innovative, evidence-based therapies and services to bring whole health and well-being to all patients and employees. With her whole health vision, Dr. Adan aims to equip and empower everyone to take charge of their own physical, mental and spiritual health in order to live a full and meaningful life. Dr. Adan is focused on creating a shift in healthcare delivery in response to our nation’s healthcare crisis. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Adan spearheaded UH4YOU, a new system-wide program designed to provide practical resources and compassionate support for UH’s 30,000+ caregivers during this challenging time and beyond.

With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Adan encourages patients, caregivers and the community to understand the critical connection between the mind, body and spirit. Dr. Adan earned her medical degree from Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, followed by three years working in the field of family medicine. She immigrated to the United States in 1987 and completed a residency in psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic in 1996. She became board certified in psychiatry in 1997.

In addition to her work with University Hospitals, Dr. Adan is the Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Academic Consortium of Integrative Medicine and Health; Advisory Board Member for the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, as well as other whole health-related industries; and Assistant Professor at the CWRU School of Medicine. Dr. Adan was named one of University Hospitals’ 2021 Distinguished Physicians, recognizing her passion and drive to make a difference, her outstanding leadership, and her ability to create lasting change and improve health outcomes for UH patients and caregivers. Dr. Adan was named one of Crain’s Cleveland Business’s 2019 Women of Note, honoring her inspiration, dedication and achievements. Dr. Adan is a frequent presenter on stress management and resilience, successful integrative medicine program development and system-level integration of a whole health approach to healthcare.
