Supervised Practice Hours/Program Rotations

The Dietetic Internship Program at University Hospitals provides a minimum of 1,587 hours of full-time scheduled supervised practice experience within a 49-week period. In order to progress throughout the planned rotations and receive the Dietetic Internship Verification Statement indicating program completion, each rotation must be completed with a final evaluation score of 2.5 or higher.

Graduate Coursework/Master’s Degree

A total of 15 graduate credits will be completed at CWRU during the UHCMC Dietetic Internship Program. In order to receive the Dietetic Internship Verification Statement indicating program completion, each required course (indicated below with asterisks) must be completed with a grade of “B” or higher.

The remaining credits to complete the Master’s Degree are completed during the fall semester after the dietetic intern has completed the dietetic internship program and received the Dietetic Internship Verification Statement.

Overview of Combined Dietetic Internship/Master’s Degree Program

The first 11 months are devoted to completing the accredited Dietetic Internship Program and 18 hours of graduate school coursework. Once the dietetic internship program is completed and Dietetic Internship Verification Statement is received in July, the intern will then become eligible to take the RDN Exam. Typically all dietetic interns take the exam prior to the final semester at Case Western Reserve University.

The remaining graduate school requirements are completed during the final semester at Case Western Reserve University.

Requirements for Program Completion

  • All UHCMC dietetic interns are expected to comply with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Evaluation of professional development occurs throughout the program in every rotation.
  • A variety of experiences are planned to enable the dietetic intern to attain the core knowledge and competence for entry level dietitians as outlined in the Standards of Education. The planned activities for each rotation, professional development days, and special projects are minimum requirements for every intern.
  • In order to progress throughout the planned rotations and complete the dietetic internship program, each rotation must be completed with a final evaluation score of 3.0 or higher.
  • Each CWRU graduate course required for the dietetic internship must be completed with a grade of “B” or higher.

Upon successful completion of the dietetic internship, the graduate intern will receive the Dietetic Internship (DI) Verification Statement which enables them to establish eligibility to take the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) exam.
