Conferences

The Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Gastroenterology Fellowship Program weekly Medical-Surgical Clinical Conference allows in-depth discussion and interaction between gastroenterology faculty and fellows, surgeons, radiologists and pathologists on selected cases of unusual interest or particular teaching value. The conference includes presentations by gastroenterology fellows, faculty and surgical staff. The schedule for this conference also includes a Morbidity & Mortality Conference every other month. Cases for this conference are presented by the advanced endoscopy fellow and the surgery fellow.

The Digestive Diseases Research Core Center (DDRCC) Seminar Series

This Digestive Diseases Research Core Center (DDRCC) Seminar Series is held at noon every Wednesday from September through June. Talks for this series are given by faculty in various disciplines from University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic. Topics include new and exciting research breakthroughs in such areas as:

  • Hepatitis C
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Liver diseases
  • GI cancer

Fellows' Conference Focuses on Clinical Topics

Fellows' Conference every Thursday morning focuses on clinical topics. Following a core curriculum designed for new fellows, a wide range of faculty and fellows from both within the division and affiliated departments, as well as visiting professors, provide didactic talks over a three-year cycle. A pathology conference provides an interactive instruction in interpretation of gastrointestinal and liver biopsies and GI radiology conferences include focused lectures on imaging modalities and interpretation. A series on evidence-based medicine is also included.

City-wide Conferences

Fellows participate in and present cases at three city-wide conferences which are held quarterly:

  • Tavill Hepatology Conference
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease Conference
  • Advanced Endoscopy Conference

Monthly Research Conference

The Research Conference once a month features presentations by divisional and visiting faculty. In the spring, each fellow presents data on his or her individual projects.

Monthly Journal Club

Journal Club meets once a month and is devoted to controversial issues of gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Faculty members are responsible for coordinating the sessions and typically they include articles related to their expertise.

Fellows are encouraged also to attend weekly Morbidity & Mortality conferences on Fridays and Grand Rounds on Tuesdays given by the Department of Medicine.
