Clinical Training

We welcome applications from well-trained and committed physicians who have complete at least two years in an accredited pediatric residency programs. Fellows acquire the clinical skills needed to independently practice child neurology at the end of the training program through a wide range of clinical experiences. The first training year is spent in Adult Neurology in accordance with the requirements for training in Child Neurology. During this year, the fellow will participate in a child neurology continuity clinic spending one half day a week in this clinic. The next two years are spent gaining experience and exposure to clinical pediatric neurology as well as the various disciplines in neurology including neuroscience, neuromuscular, neuroanatomy and electrophysiology. Specialty clinic opportunities include: neurooncology, neurogenetics, neurobehavioral, cerebral palsy and spasticity management, and various other opportunities.

Clinical training experiences include:

  • Child Neurology inpatient and consultative service
  • Outpatient general child neurology continuity clinics
  • Elective opportunities in neuromuscular disease, neuroradiology, neuroophthalmology, neurogenetics, pediatric epilepsy, neurorehabilitation, palliative care, neuropsychology and child psychiatry
  • The division has a very busy outpatient practice with 12,000 outpatient visits a year. We also run a very busy in patient and consultative service. The pediatric intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit make up a large part of our consultative services.
