Connie Piccone, MD, is a pediatric hematology and oncology specialist (blood disorders and cancer) and Clinical Director of the Sickle Cell Anemia Center in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. She is Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Piccone is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology and oncology. Her special interests include pediatric hematology (blood disorders), specifically sickle cell disease. She joined the UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital staff in 2010.
Dr. Piccone earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, graduating summa cum laude from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. She earned her doctorate in medicine from Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Piccone completed her residency in pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, followed by a year as Chief Resident. Her fellowship training in hematology and oncology was at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pa., and she also completed the Clinical Research Certificate Program in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sickle cell disease and its complications in children is Dr. Piccone’s primary research interest, and she currently has multiple research projects on sickle cell disease in progress. Dr. Piccone has authored a textbook chapter and speaks at pediatric hematology and oncology conferences on this disease.
She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Society for Hematology and American Society of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
