LGBTQIA+ TRAINING SERIES

In collaboration with The Fenway Institute in Boston, MA, UH LGBQ & GenderCare is excited to announce an upcoming series of LGBTQIA+ trainings. These training sessions aim to enhance the well-being of (and eliminate the disparities in healthcare experienced by) LGBTQIA+ patients through the provision of services that promote health and wellness for all patients.

The training sessions will be facilitated as webinars in Zoom. Registration in advance is required.

We encourage you to attend any and all of the following sessions.

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Data Collection
July 7 | 8 – 9 a.m. EST
In this training, Dr. Alex Keuroghlian and Chris Grasso will provide methods and tools for incorporating sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection into workflows and electronic health records. The presentation also covers SOGI training and staff engagement.
This training is recommended for all staff.

Achieving Health Equity for LGBTQIA+ People
July 14 | 12 – 1 p.m. EST
In this training, Dr. Alex Keuroghlian will discuss important LGTBQIA+ concepts and terminology, highlight the relationship between stigma and LGBTQIA+ health disparities and describe best practices in LGBTQIA+ health related to effective communication, data collection, and creating an inclusive environment.
This training is recommended for all staff with a clinical focus.

Behavioral Health for LGBTQIA+ People
July 27 | 12 – 1 p.m. EST
In this training, Dr. Alex Keuroghlian will discuss behavioral health care for LGBTQIA+ people. This session will contextualize mental health inequities across diagnostic categories within a gender minority stress framework, propose culturally responsive tailoring of evidence-based clinical practices, and offer strategies for building inclusive, affirming, and trauma-informed environments in order to optimize behavioral health outcomes.
This training is recommended for all mental health clinicians.

Gender-Affirming Hormone Therapy
August 6 | 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. EST
In this training, Julie Thompson, PA-C will provide an overview of feminizing and masculinizing hormone therapy, discuss benefits of gender-affirming hormone therapy, review the process of initiating hormone therapy, and outline recommendations for monitoring.
This training is recommended for all primary care clinicians.

Front-Line Staff Training: LGBTQIA+ Health Equity
August 11 | 12 – 1 p.m. EST
This training provides foundational information about LGBTQIA+ people and their health needs as well as tips and strategies to improve communication and create a more welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ communities. It includes helpful resources for how to best serve LGBTQIA+ people.
This training is recommended for all non-clinical staff.
