Internal Medicine Residency Program at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center
University Hospitals Parma Medical Center’s Department of Medical Education, part of the University Hospitals Osteopathic Consortium, offers a three-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program. The program is open to 30 residents and provides an optimum balance of system-integrated academic and hands-on training.
UH Parma Medical Center has been serving the community’s health needs in the southwest suburbs of Cleveland for more than 50 years. This 332-bed, acute-care facility is a full-service hospital that includes UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, UH Seidman Cancer Center, an acute rehabilitation center and a residential hospice. UH Parma Medical Center has been nationally recognized for its orthopedics and cardiovascular outcomes. The setting provides our residents a community teaching environment with the opportunity to train side-by-side with outstanding attending physicians. UH Parma Medical Center also has provisional Level III Adult Trauma Center status and is a Primary Stroke Center. This friendly, medium-size setting is small enough to create a family-friendly environment, yet large enough to provide exposure to a wide range of state-of-the-art medicine.
As a member of the University Hospital Health System of Cleveland, our residency has access to one of the premiere health centers of the world. A leader in the areas of research and academics, University Hospitals has been providing care for over 150 years. A blend of cutting-edge technology along with a dedication to community outreach, University Hospitals has been a leader not only here in Cleveland but throughout the country and world. As a residency affiliated with this great institution, our residents have access not only to high-end academic rotations, but a wide range of conferences and programs.
The University Hospitals mission “To Heal. To Teach. To Discover.” is reflected in our internal medicine residency. Our goal is to provide the best faculty to “teach” our young physicians. We want to provide quality care to help our patient’s “heal.” And, we want to be a part of the “discovery” of new and exciting medical breakthroughs.
Residents participate in a wellness ambulatory medicine clinic one-half day per week. Procedural competencies within the curriculum include endoscopy; ventilator management; and critical care procedures including central line placement, arterial catheterization, bedside ultrasound, thoracentesis and abdominal paracentesis. Residents are also active members of the Internal Medicine Department at UH Parma Medical Center and are required to participate on various hospital committees.
