Cytopathology Fellowship

The Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Cytopathology Fellowship Program at University Hospitals, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, provides extensive training in diagnostic cytopathology utilizing an annual volume of about 28,000 gynecologic and 5,000 non-gynecologic specimens from the outpatient and inpatient clinical services of an over 1,000-bed teaching hospital and a Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Cytopathology Fellowship Program Training

The training involves active participation in the following:

  • Fine needle aspiration
  • Quality assurance
  • Research activities of the laboratory
  • Signing out
  • Teaching

It is complemented by a cytopathology lecture course given over a three-month period. The fellow will have the opportunity to rotate in affiliated community hospitals, dedicated research and up to six weeks of elective time.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed requirements for primary certification in anatomic pathology (AP) or AP/clinical pathology (CP) before the start of this fellowship.

Types and Numbers of Appointments

One fellowship is available per year.
