Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program

The Fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing is a two-year comprehensive training program in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders. The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program at University Hospitals, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, is focused on training fellows to become well-rounded and clinically-adept electrophysiologists, with a solid understanding of basic electrophysiology principles coupled with advanced training in complex electrophysiology procedures.

Nationally Recognized Faculty Expertise

The department has a diverse faculty with expertise in many areas, including:

  • Basic and translational research
  • Complex ablation
  • Device implantation and management
  • Inherited arrhythmia syndromes
  • Resynchronization therapy

Fellows are encouraged to be involved in industry-sponsored clinical trials or physician-initiated studies. Faculty members enjoy teaching fellows via didactic sessions, interactive conferences and one-on-one during procedures, consultative service or in the outpatient clinic.

With exceptional facilities, staff and faculty, fellows can expect a cardiac electrophysiology training program that will provide them with the clinical expertise to diagnose and manage cardiac arrhythmias such as the following through the use of implantable devices, pharmacologic therapy and ablative therapy:

  • Accessory pathway-mediated tachycardia
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Atrial flutter
  • Atrial tachycardia
  • Atrioventricular nodal reentry
  • Ventricular tachycardia

Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Graduates

The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Fellowship at UH Cleveland Medical Center was established in 1986 by Albert Waldo, MD. Graduates of the program go on to positions at academic centers as well as private practice in the U.S. and around the world. Our UH family meet once a year at a reunion dinner during the annual Heart Rhythm Scientific Sessions to reconnect with former colleagues and connect with recent graduates and current fellows.
