Becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Steps in the Process

  1. Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college/university
  2. Completion of an Accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)
  3. Completion of a supervised practice program: Accredited Dietetic Internship Program
  4. Receipt of a Dietetic Internship Verification Statement upon successful completion of academic and practice requirements
  5. Successfully passing the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) national credentialing examination for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  6. Licensure (varies by state)

Licensure

The UH Cleveland Medical Center Dietetic Internship Program provides comprehensive supervised practice experiences as a route to eligibility for the national credentialing examination for Registered Dietitians as well as for licensure in Ohio. Many states require licensure before being able to practice as a Registered Dietitian. Please check licensure guidelines for the state in which you plan to seek employment.
