Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center
The Auxiliary of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center is a legal entity that works in cooperation with the hospital to provide additional patient services. The mission of The Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center is to render service to the hospital and its patients, to promote the health and welfare of the community, and to provide funds through special projects for additional patient services in accordance with hospital priorities.
The Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center is a large group of people whose sole purpose is to benefit others. This organization provides diverse opportunities for all who join. Members form lasting relationships, take on leadership responsibilities, help plan events, and participate in fundraising that makes a difference in our community.

The Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center meets the fourth Monday of: January, February, March, April, May, August, September, October and November.
Auxiliary Fundraising Activities
The Auxiliary hosts fundraising events throughout the year, catering to the community and employees of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center. Fundraising efforts include:
- Chestnut Tree Gift Shop
- Celebration of Lights
- Style show/benefit luncheon
- Jewelry sale
- Book sale
- UH Portage Medical Center Craft Show
- Uniform sale
- Golf outing
- Various other fundraisers
How Auxiliary Funds Are Used
Funds raised by the Auxiliary are used in a variety of ways to best suit the needs of the hospital, which enhance patient care. The Auxiliary of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center also make commitments to the hospital for major projects over the course of a designated time-frame.
Some of the major programs or hospital services enhanced by funds from the Auxiliary were:
- Digital mammography equipment for the Radiology Department
- Heart monitors for the Emergency Department
- Respiratory therapy equipment
- Renovation of the surgical waiting area in 2011
Through funds raised at Auxiliary events, we also donate to community service projects such as:
- Lifeline, a personal emergency response system
- Providing teddy bears for children having surgery
- Distribution of educational videos for new mothers to take home from the Birth Center at UH Portage Medical Center
- Bereavement boxes for the Birth Center at UH Portage Medical Center
- Children’s tapes for pediatrics
How to Become Involved with the Auxiliary
Membership in The Auxiliary of University Hospitals Portage Medical Center is open to all adults who are interested in UH Portage Medical Center, willing to uphold the mission of the organization, and willing to pay annual dues.
An active member is expected to provide volunteer/organization hours. All active members are encouraged to participate in fund-raising projects approved by The Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center and attend regular meetings. Meetings are the 4th Monday of the month at 11:30 a.m. at UH Portage Medical Center, January through May and August through November.
