Advanced Laboratory Technology Provides Superior Patient Care

The onsite laboratory at UH Elyria Medical Center is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and information systems that offer the most advanced technologies, automated processes, and robotics to ensure quality results.

Extensive use of barcode technology ensures superior patient safety and a rapid turnaround. Hand-held computers with label printers are used by phlebotomists (those certified to draw blood samples) on the Elyria, Amherst and Avon campuses to scan patient information directly from their bar-coded wristbands. Labels are applied to specimens at the patient's bedside, enhancing patient safety with positive sample ID.

Specimens are processed and analyzed as soon as they reach the laboratory. Our laboratory team strives to deliver accurate results to physicians in the shortest time possible and offers convenient solutions for transmitting lab results to physician electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
