Massage Therapy at Exhale Spa Offers Relaxation, Pain Relief and Other Health Benefits

Exhale Spa at University Hospitals Avon Health Center offers customized massage sessions, from deep tissue and hot stone massages to unique enhancements like ArōmaTouch®. Exhale Spa’s massage therapists are trained to meet each client’s specific needs. The following massage therapies are offered at Exhale Spa:

ArōmaTouch® Technique

The ArōmaTouch®; technique is a massage that incorporates oils to create a powerful whole body well-being experience. It seeks to address stress, immunity, inflammatory response and autonomic imbalance that are present daily through the healing touch of massage therapy.

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy

Ashiatsu oriental bar therapy is a deeply relaxing treatment that uses soft, clean feet with relaxed toes to sweep, swirl and massage muscle fibers. The client typically notices an improvement in posture and movement. Ashiatsu oriental bar therapy also relieves pain and creates a feeling of well-being.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue techniques are generally designed for more focused massage work. Working with a specific joint, muscle or muscle group, the massage therapist can access deeper layers of the soft tissue to release chronic muscle tension or knots.

Fibromyalgia Massage Therapy

Fibromyalgia massage therapy is an extremely effective technique designed to reduce stress, induce relaxation and sleep, and treat tender points (slowly, as intensity may exacerbate conditions).

Hot Stone Massage

Heated massage stones radiate their warmth into the surrounding body tissues and muscles, increasing blood circulation, as well as decreasing stress, tension and tissue stiffness.

Muscle Release Technique (MRT®)

Muscle Release Technique is a unique injury therapy that combines compression, extension, movement and breath that provides relief from pain. With MRT®, scar tissue is broken up, the muscle is lengthened, muscle memory is restored, and relief from pain often starts immediately.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial release therapy is an extremely effective hands-on technique that works by applying gentle, sustained pressure to eliminate pain and restore flexibility and motion to the fascia (connective tissue).

Negative Pressure Massage (Cupping)

This therapy uses a suction cup along with coconut oil to perform a gliding or parking technique. The cup is placed on the client and suction is used to secure the cup. The cup is slid over the oil, allowing a vacuuming of the tissues that is similar to deep tissue massage without the comprehensive force. The cup can also be parked and manipulated for a short period to aid tissue release and joint movement.

Neuromuscular (NMT) and Trigger Point Therapies

This therapy is used for those suffering from acute and chronic pain and will stimulate the body to heal on its own. Once the healing begins, NMT is used to stimulate soft tissue repair in specific areas, while simultaneously addressing some of the perpetuating factors causing pain.

Polarity Therapy

An assessment of energetic attributes using palpation, observation and interview methods. The results vary and may include profound relaxation, an understanding of energetic patterns, implications and relief from numerous problematic situations such as hypertension, anxiety attacks and breathing disorders. This work combines sound tuning fork therapy and Reiki.

Postnatal and Prenatal Massages

Postnatal massage focuses on helping to restore the woman’s body to its pre-pregnancy condition. Playing an important part in the restoration of the abdominal muscle wall and the uterus to its normal state, it helps to realign the body weight to its original distribution and tone the overstretched area of skin over the belly. Prenatal massage focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be, providing relaxation by relieving stress on joints, easing neck and back pain, helping to keep good posture, and relaxing and providing flexibility to birthing muscles.

Shea Butter and Seaweed Body Wraps

A shea butter body wrap treatment includes a body wrap as well as a massage. Shea butter is applied to the skin, then a wrap is applied for rich vitamins and mineral to penetrate skin. A massage during the session is followed by an effleurage massage to stimulate the muscles and back. A seaweed wrap is excellent for detoxifying the body and for giving the body a firmer, sleeker appearance. Nutrients from the seaweed are absorbed while toxins are extracted from the body. The seaweed is washed off. This treatment aids in rebuilding the skin’s elasticity while proteins condition the skin, making it feel soft, smooth and toned.

Sound Tuning Fork Therapy

This is an energy-based, noninvasive treatment using calibrated tuning forks. Tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture and acupressure points to access the body’s meridians, chakra and energy system.

Sports Massage

A sports massage utilizes specific strokes and stretches to help obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning by increasing power, endurance and flexibility, both before and after an event or workout.

Swedish Relaxation Massage

This is a relaxing and nurturing style that refers to a collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones. This style promotes relaxation using long, flowing strokes designed to increase circulation and blood flow. As it can help reduce emotional and physical stress, it is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm and stress, as well as to promote health and wellness.
