Bio

Allison Payne, MD, MSCR, is a neonatologist in the Division of Neonatology and Perinatal Medicine at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Lake Hospitals, Willoughby and Painesville, Ohio. She is an Instructor in Pediatrics, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Payne is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine. She also is certified in neonatal resuscitation and extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). She has a special interests in neurologic and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of premature infants.

Dr. Payne completed her undergraduate work in bioengineering at the University of California –San Diego, La Jolla, Calif., graduating cum laude. She received her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, N.Y., and a master’s degree in clinical research at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, N.Y., and a fellowship in neonatology-perinatal medicine at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. As a fellow, she received a National Institutes of Health Ruth L. Kirchstein National Research Service Award and a William Randolph Hearst Foundation Fellowship award.

Dr. Payne joined the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital staff in 2009 as a pediatrician and was named to the Neonatology staff in 2012 at the completion of her fellowship.

Dr. Payne’s research interests focus on the neurologic and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of high-risk neonates, and she has authored an article on this topic published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics and authored a related textbook chapter. She has presented abstracts at local, regional and national medical and scientific meetings and conferences.

Dr. Payne is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
