Biography
Maryo C. Kohen, MD, is a pediatric ophthalmologist and Adult Strabismus specialist for University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He also serves as an Assistant Professor for the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences.
Dr. Kohen attended The Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine where he earned his medical doctor degree. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Yeditepe University in Istanbul. He was a research fellow for two years at Case Western Reserve University, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He completed his pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus clinical fellowship at UH Cleveland Medical Center and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Kohen’s research focused on the drug eluding polymers for children after ophthalmic surgery. He was awarded research grants from Knights Templar Eye Foundation and Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation. He serves as a clinical attending for medical students and residents in the areas of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.
Dr. Kohen’s practice focuses on routine and medical ocular examinations of children and adults with strabismus with a special interest in retinopathy of prematurity, management of amblyopia, pediatric ocular disease, and special needs children.
Aside from clinical practice, Dr. Kohen lectures at ophthalmology continuing education events, participates in clinical research, and attends local and national ophthalmology meetings to maintain a high quality evidence-based approach to his practice.

Dr. Kohen is an excellent eye doctor. He treats our granddaughter, *** age 7, as if she is a member of his family. We are extremely impressed with his bed side manner and knowledge of his specialty.
