Silvestre Duran, MD, is a general pediatric cardiologist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital within The Congenital Heart Collaborative. He joined the UH Rainbow medical staff in 2019 and specializes in the care of pediatric patients with new cardiac concerns and those with congenital heart disease requiring surgery. His clinical interests and expertise include longitudinal outpatient complex care of post-surgical patients, especially single ventricle patients. Dr. Duran is also part of the Hearts at HOME clinic at UH Rainbow and is in the process of establishing a clinic for patients with Fontan physiology.

Dr. Duran actively participates in research related to his field of expertise, including an investigation around myocardial perfusion reserve measured by cardiac MRI as a marker for transplant coronary vasculopathy. More recently, he was involved with the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcomes Collaborative and the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative.

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Duran earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and his medical degree from the Ohio State University. As a medical student he was awarded the Ohio State Department of Pediatrics Award for outstanding performance in the study and care of children. He completed a general pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. Following his residency, he traveled to Dallas for additional fellowship training in in pediatric cardiology.

We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
