Biography
Jeffrey S. Tharp, DO, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Tharp has practiced for the last 26 years in the area, specializing in adult reconstructive procedures on the spine, including minimally invasive approaches. He operates on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, with expertise in both anterior and posterior approaches.
Dr. Tharp grew up in northeastern Ohio in a small town called Andover near Pymatuning Lake. As the son of his hometown’s family physician, he has been around medicine his entire life. Dr. Tharp obtained his undergraduate degree at Ohio University and attended medical school at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Warren General Hospital, an orthopedic residency at Cuyahoga falls General Hospital, and a Spine Fellowship at the Florida Spine Institute. In 1996, he returned to the area and started his practice. Dr. Tharp became a full-time employee of University hospitals in January 2020.
Dr. Tharp is a member of the North American Spine Society and a board-certified member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, having obtained a 10-year recertification in 2018. He has also served as program director for the orthopedic residency program and as chairman of the Department of Orthopedics at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital. Dr. Tharp has trained and mentored many students and residents through his years of practice.
