Stacy Schonberg, OD, joined the University Hospitals Eye Institute in April 2016. She practices comprehensive optometry with specialization in ocular disease management and contact lens care. She is an assistant professor in the Case Western Reserve University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. In this capacity and also with academic appointments at The Ohio State University College of Optometry, Indiana University College of Optometry and Western University of Health Sciences, she teaches optometry externs and ophthalmology residents.
Dr. Schonberg was born and raised in West Bloomfield, Mich. She attended The University of Michigan where she graduated with a B.S. in brain, behavior, and cognitive sciences. Following her undergraduate studies, she attended The Ohio State University College of Optometry where she earned her Doctorate in Optometry, graduating summa cum laude and was awarded the Beta Sigma Kappa silver medal, indicating that was the valedictorian of her class (graduated number one in her class). Dr. Schonberg completed a residency in ocular disease management at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland. Dr. Schonberg was in practice as the optometrist at a refractive surgery center for four years prior to joining University Hospitals.
Dr. Schonberg provides comprehensive eye care for adults and children including the prescription of glasses, routine and specialty contact lenses, and management of eye infections and injuries. She also provides non-surgical medical management of diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and glaucoma. She has a strong relationship with ophthalmologists in the UH Eye Institute for referrals when surgical intervention is needed.
Dr. Schonberg is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association.
