Kristine Rork, PhD, is a clinical/pediatric psychologist in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and Psychology at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Rork is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her special interests are trauma and stress in children, child anxiety and mood disorders, and behavior management of disruptive behavior in young children.

Dr. Rork earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C., and a masters’ degree in psychology from Boston University, Boston, Mass. She earned her master’s and doctorate in clinical psychology (child specialization) from West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va., following which she attended a predoctoral internship at the National Crime Victims’ Center at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, S.C. She completed her postdoctoral training as a fellow in clinical child psychology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Miss.

Prior to her appointment to the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in 2011, Dr. Rork was a clinical psychologist with the Summa Health System Center for the Treatment & Study of Traumatic Stress, Akron, Ohio. During her tenure there she also was Assistant Professor, Psychiatry, Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, Rootstown, Ohio, and Adjunct Assistant Professor, Psychology, Kent State University.

She has published papers about pediatric trauma, parenting and its relation to child psychopathology, and related topics in professional journals and made more than two dozen presentations at medical conferences on subjects that include pediatric trauma, foster parenting and the effects of violence in children’s lives.

Dr. Rork’s professional memberships include the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, American Psychological Association, Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children.

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
