About
Chantal ElAmm, MD, is a board-certified advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology specialist at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. She is Medical Director of the Heart Failure Intensive Care Unit at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, as well as an associate professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. ElAmm earned her medical degree from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. Her postdoctoral training included a research fellowship in physiology at the American University Of Beirut, an internal medicine residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and cardiology fellowship at Methodist Debakey Hospital/University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals in Houston, Texas. She then completed a heart failure and cardiac transplantation fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. ElAmm has authored over 100 clinical publications, book chapters and abstracts on topics related to advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, ventricular assist devices and heart transplantation. She is a peer reviewer for well-known professional journals including Circulation Heart Failure, Journal of Cardiac Failure and the Journal of Echocardiography.
Dr. ElAmm is an avid researcher, with key roles in more than 30 clinical studies, currently serving as director of cardiogenic shock and ventricular assist device (VAD) research at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center with a focus on management strategies, care protocols and quality metrics. She has also been intricately involved in multiple hospital committees such as high incident command center operations, CMS star rating clinical team, and operational lead for patient transfers and admissions as part of an inpatient model of care redesign.
Dr. ElAmm is a member of nationally distinguished organizations including the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) and the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT). She is consistently recognized as a Top Doctor by Cleveland Magazine.

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.
UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
