Gerald Burma, MD, FACC, is an expert general cardiologist at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.
Dr. Burma earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. His postdoctoral training included an internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital (now Metro Health Medical Center). He is board certified in cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Burma has built a robust clinical practice over the past 40 years, with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of heart conditions, including angina, coronary artery disease, congenital heart defects, congestive heart failure, heart arrhythmias and heart valve disease.
He has authored publications in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine on pericarditis and myocardial infarction (heart attack), as well as the Journal of Applied Physiology on the topic of pulmonary blood flow. For his dedication to the field of cardiovascular medicine, he has been inducted as a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

I'm scheduled for knee replacement l surgery and got an immediate appointment to ask Dr. Burma if my heart condition is good to undergo that surgery. I was given an EKG and we discussed my concerns. I left feeling comfortable about having the surgery. Dr. Burma always givens me full time and attention. He is A-1!

I've always been very satisfied with Dr. Burma's concern and attention to any problems I have. Always asks if I have any issues I want to bring up.
Made appointment after annual physical identified a premature heartbeat. Had a heart CT scan and wanted to speak with a specialist about the results. Dr. Burma is my mother's cardiologist and I was always impressed with his care for her. As he always does with her, he explained in detail reasons and causes of a premature heartbeat and showed me the heart CT scan on his computer, explaining the various parts of the heart and indicating no signs of blockage or damage. He explained in easy to understand terms, was professional, and courteous. I would defintely recommend him to family and friends.

Been seeing Dr. Burma for about 20 years. In ***, after being brought in by EMS, Dr. Burma was in the ER, and two nurses were waiting to settle me and start tests. My BP was, If I could recall, 170/43. Several tests over 3 days suggested open heart replacement of three arteries from critical to severe condition. Dr. Burma was upfront and explained what, how, the causes, what had happened, and how the surgery would happen. Best heart clinician I've known. I'm pleased to have had him in my most dire time when needed.
