I have the utmost respect for Dr.Ahn. He will be performing a third surgery for me and I know I am in the most capable hands.

Dr. Ahn apologized for his delay. We reviewed the results of the MRI and he explained them thoroughly. I was taking notes during this process and he added to them with diagrams and abbreviations. When the visit was complete, I was completely comfortable with the next steps and plan of action.

Dr. Ahn is a very thorough doctor/surgeon who takes the time to explain your condition and whatever steps may be necessary to help you return to as near normal as possible. Facing multiple back surgeries, Dr. Ahn explains all possible treatment options along with the possible outcomes, both good and bad. He repeatedly asked me if I fully understood all outcome scenarios, and asked several times If I was aware of them and still willing to proceed with the two surgeries knowing that there was absolutely no guarantee of a full return to my previous abilities. He even explained multiple times that I in fact could be worse afterward. He also discussed that my own mental and physical input played a very large part in my healing. My husband and I have confidence in Dr. Ahn's abilities and honesty.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
