In recognition of receiving extraordinary care at University Hospitals, Irving B. “Buddy” and Virginia Spitz are leaving their legacy in two areas that have touched their lives – UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute and UH Neurological Institute. By supporting innovative clinical and translational research and education programs, their generosity will benefit future generations of patients and physicians.

One of the couple’s gifts established the Spitz Master Clinician in Cardiology, which recognizes exceptional medical care, advances new therapies for patients with heart failure and provides training for residents and physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions.

The Spitzes also made a gift to create the Spitz Brain Health Innovation Fund, which supports dozens of clinical research projects related to memory and executive function in health and disease. Grant recipients are recognized as Spitz Scholars.
