Schneider Healing Garden: A Gift of Beauty and Serenity

"Cancer has touched our lives in significant ways. I lost my mother to leukemia in 1962 and my father to a brain tumor five years later. My wife Cindy is fortunately a cancer survivor. She feels, as I do, that we are incredibly grateful to have access to excellent care at University Hospitals should we need it.”

- Bob Schneider

“When UH announced plans to build the new cancer hospital, Bob and I were excited to be able to get involved. Bob’s mom had a passion for gardening and I do as well. Creating an outdoor garden so that patients being treated for cancer have a place of beauty to enjoy seemed like the perfect contribution."

- Cindy Schneider

The Mary and Al Schneider Healing Garden provides an outdoor respite away from hospital rooms and treatment areas. Robert and Cindy Schneider donated $2.75 million, in memory of Robert’s parents, to build the garden at UH Seidman Cancer Center. The garden, located near the entrance of the hospital, is visible to patients undergoing treatment. Bob is retired Chairman and CEO of Patio Enclosures Inc., a company his father co-founded in 1966.
