 and Susan Hurwitz Master Clinician
in Wellness at University Hospitals.

Robert and Susan Hurwitz are enthusiastic about healthy living and prevention. The couple has pledged more than $2 million to advance better health for patients at University Hospitals. Their most recent generosity has established the Robert and Susan Hurwitz Master Clinician in Wellness at UH. The gift was matched with $250,000 from the O’Neill Foundation.

“Our attitude was that cancer, Alzheimer’s and other serious diseases are already getting funding,” Susan said. “We wanted to see what we could do by promoting prevention and mitigation.”

Roy Buchinsky, MD, ABIHM, was honored as the inaugural Robert and Susan Hurwitz Master Clinician in Wellness at a ceremony late last year. Director of Wellness at UH, Dr. Buchinsky is a long-time proponent of preventive medicine and its ability to tackle many of society’s greatest health problems, including diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

“At its most basic level, wellness is a state of optimal health,” Dr. Buchinsky said. “It’s not just about the lack of disease, but the idea of maximizing physical, mental and spiritual health. It’s a feeling of actualizing one’s potential.”
