After moving many times for her undergraduate and medical degrees, Kathryn "Kate" Miller, MD, is happy to plant roots in Cleveland as a pediatric intensivist at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. The only moves she wants to do now are on the dance floor.

Dr. Miller began dancing after attending last year's Dancing with the Docs. She left the event both impressed by the talent and haunted by the foolish notion, "I could do that." You be the judge, as her scant dance experiences (prior to last fall) include high school musical theater and learning 'N Sync's "Bye Bye Bye" for a med school skit. Neither helped her prepare for ballroom dancing.

Dr. Miller has spent considerable time teaching so she looks forward to returning to the student role when she steps onto the dance floor. From the terminology to the footwork (to say nothing of where the arms go), learning ballroom has been a delight, she said. It has given her the opportunity to challenge herself. That her efforts will benefit the UH Auxiliary, a cornerstone of first-rate patient- and family-centered care at UH, means the world to her.
