Ask the Experts - Sleep Medicine Expertise
What is sleep apnea?
The answer is...
Board certified pulmonologists and sleep medicine physicians Susan Redline, MD and John Baron, MD explain that apnea is a pattern of breathing interruptions during sleep, often caused by a narrow or obstructed airway. Apnea sufferers can stop breathing for up to 30 seconds at a time, as many as 600 times a night, and are four times more likely to have a stroke and three times more likely to have heart disease.
If you believe you or a loved one may suffer from sleep apnea, we urge you to ask University Hospitals’ experts about it.
