Should I Wait After a Miscarriage to Try Again?

I had a miscarriage 2 months ago. How soon can I start trying to become pregnant again? Do I have to take any special precautions to make sure I don’t miscarry again?
- Nicole

Some doctors recommend that women wait 3 months (three menstrual cycles) or more before trying to get pregnant again to give their bodies time to heal. Continue to take preconception precautions, like taking folic acid; abstaining from drinking, smoking, or using drugs; and avoiding other substances that might harm your unborn child. If you miscarry more than once, you may want to talk with your doctor about medical conditions or other factors that could be putting you at risk for miscarriage.

If you become pregnant again, be sure to maintain a healthy, nutrient-rich diet and limit or avoid certain foods that may harm your developing child. Also, be sure to talk with your doctor about any vaccinations you might need, as some infections that can be prevented by vaccines could lead to miscarriage.
