Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy: A Balance between Self Care/Work, Play and Leisure

Our highly trained, service-oriented Occupational Therapists at University Hospitals Richmond Medical Center, A Campus of UH Regional Hospitals, who have combined experience of 24 years, work with referring physicians to provide comprehensive evaluations, treatment and patient education using the most recent research-based technology. Treatment plans are developed to maximize clients’ physical abilities and functioning utilizing manual therapy and state-of-the-art equipment. Goals are set with the clients’ interests in mind.

The acute care gym is newly remodeled in 2007 with the expansion of orthopaedic services and pain management services. The outpatient department is conveniently located near the hospital’s main entrance and patient parking lot at the rear of the building.

Outpatient therapist:
Anita Reddi-Chatterjee OTR/L

  • Licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Cleveland State University 6/1996
  • Specializing in upper extremity and hand therapy outpatient services. Working toward Certification in Hand Therapy.

Inpatient therapist:
Chris Rohan OTR/L

  • Licensed Occupational Therapist with 12 years of experience specializing in acute and skilled care services.

Our Occupational Therapy team is available Monday-Friday for outpatient appointments and acute care needs.

Occupational Therapy Services (outpatient services)

Upper Extremity Orthopaedic/Neurological Diagnoses (0-100 yrs.)

  • Specializing in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand injuries, including postoperative care.
    • Rotator cuff surgery, tendonitis, total shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, upper extremity fractures, sprains/strains, lymphedema management; cumulative trauma disorders including carpal tunnel surgery, cervical sprain/strain, radiculopathy, neuropathies, etc.
  • Rehabilitation following spine, musculoskeletal disorders, occupational or motor vehicle accidents or injury
  • Low back pain, lumbar stabilization, SI joint issues
  • Exercise and conditioning programs
  • Individualized home exercise programs
  • Comprehensive care for neurological impairments: CVA, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, brachial plexus injuries
  • Cognitive/perceptual/behavioral retraining to maximize independence with activities of daily living
  • Sensorimotor retraining
  • Recommendations and training for assistive or adaptive devices
  • Contracture management: static and static progressive upper/lower extremity splinting
  • Patient education programs for arthritis, osteoporosis, chronic pain and repetitive stress disorders
  • Edema management; lymphedema management
  • Pain control modalities planning to include low level laser therapy
  • Biomechanical, postural and ergonomic assessments for preventative care
  • Myofascial release, trigger point release, manual therapy techniques

Specialty Services

Hand Therapy following traumatic injury or surgery

  • Flexor/extensor tendon repair management includes customized static, static progressive and dynamic splinting, finger dislocations, crush injuries, fractures, sprain/strain, trigger finger, Dupuytrens’, etc.

Wound Care

  • Hand injuries, s/p surgery patients, serial casting

Pediatric Care (0-19 yrs.)

  • Prematurity, developmental delay; orthopedic/neurological diagnoses; oral motor and feeding assessments and treatment (e.g. failure to thrive, etc.) and fine motor dexterity (e.g. handwriting skills, learning disabilities, etc.)
  • Cognitive/perceptual/behavioral retraining for activities of daily living
  • Autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, etc.

Wheelchair Assessments (all ages)

  • Comprehensive seating and positioning evaluations, power operated vehicles, power wheelchairs, contracture management

Lift Chair Assessments

Industrial Rehabilitation

  • Functional capacity evaluations and work site analysis, return to work recommendations

Work Conditioning Programs

  • 6-8 weeks musculoskeletal strengthening and cardiovascular conditioning program, work simulations for return to work
